LocalAd vs PostcardMania
Updated May 18, 2026PostcardMania prints postcards at scale. LocalAd bundles exclusivity, AI design, and QR tracking into the per-piece price.
Side-by-side comparison
The honest breakdown
PostcardMania is one of the largest direct-mail houses in the country and they have earned that position by doing the basics really well. You pick a mailing list, you approve a design, they print and drop. The operation is solid, the design team is experienced, and their case studies show the upper end of what direct mail can do when the offer and list are both strong.
Where LocalAd differs is in what you are buying. PostcardMania sells print and mail as a commodity service. You come with a list (or pay for one), you approve a design (or pay for one), and the pieces go out. There is no exclusivity. If three plumbers in your ZIP each hire PostcardMania the same month, PostcardMania is happy to serve all three. That is not a criticism of the company. It is how every large print-mail shop works.
LocalAd is built around a different promise. Category exclusivity is the product, not an add-on. When you lock the plumbing slot in a LocalAd zone, we will not sell that slot to another plumber until the drop cycle ends. That changes the economics: your postcard is not competing for attention against two or three other plumbers the homeowner also got that month. It also means our AI design and QR tracking are bundled in the per-piece price rather than priced as separate line items.
Be fair: PostcardMania is faster for some buyers because their team can handle complex variable-data campaigns, multi-piece series, and large custom lists LocalAd does not yet serve. They have a national footprint LocalAd is still building. If you want a commodity print-and-mail operation with deep customization, they are excellent. If you want a turnkey product where exclusivity and tracking are the core value, that is where LocalAd wins.
Own the whole card, or share it
PostcardMania will run a whole-card campaign too, on an agency timeline with a rep, a minimum and a proof cycle. A solo LocalAd drop is the same whole card bought in a few minutes with no call, and the ship date is printed at checkout.
Price is the honest difference between the two: $4,399 buys a solo card to 5,000 homes with the ship date committed at checkout, and $349 buys one category-exclusive slot on a card that ships when the zone fills.
Questions before you buy
How much does a LocalAd direct mail postcard campaign cost?
Two ways to buy. Share the card and one category-exclusive slot runs $349 to $2,699, set by the slot position and how many homes the drop reaches. Own the card as a solo advertiser and your own 5,000-home postcard is $4,399, with the entire front of the card, edge to edge, with no co-advertisers anywhere on it. You see the exact price before you pay.
How fast does the postcard ship?
A solo drop ships on a guaranteed date within about 3 weeks of purchase. A shared card ships once the zone fills, usually 2 to 4 weeks after the last slot sells, and you see the drop status before you pay.
Will a competitor be on the same card?
No. A solo card is yours alone, with no co-advertisers of any kind. A shared card runs one business per category, so once you take the slot, no other business in your trade is on that card.
Is it available in my ZIP?
Solo runs in any US ZIP with residential mail delivery. Some ZIPs are PO boxes only, or belong to a single business or a military base. Those have no carrier routes, so there is nothing to mail. Type your ZIP at localad.io/solo and a zone opens on the spot, so there is nothing to wait for. Shared cards run in neighborhoods where a zone is filling.
When is PostcardMania the better choice?
You have a complex variable-data or multi-piece campaign you want an experienced team to run. You already own a tight custom mailing list and just need print + mail at scale.
When is LocalAd the better choice over PostcardMania?
You want category exclusivity so no competitor in your trade is on the same route. You want an AI-designed postcard in about 20 seconds, not a two-week approval cycle. You want per-drop QR attribution without buying tracking as an add-on. You want a whole-card drop you can buy in minutes, with the ship date committed up front.
